Before laying your turf is the best time to install a Husqvarna Automower.
The Husqvarna Automower will save you countless hours of time, sweat, energy and money, and will give you perfectly cut lawn to enjoy forever.
The Husqvarna Automower is very easy to own and operate and gives you more free time by maintaining your lawn on its own.
The Automower independently ensures that your lawn is well cut, without any involvement from your side. All you may have to do to get the perfect finish for your lawn is to occasionally use a grass trimmer.
The initial configuration is quickly taken care of and the mowing schedule is easily set up, either using the Automower Connect app or the user-friendly mower control panel. The Automower Connect app makes it easy to control and monitor your robotic mower from your smartphone using a Bluetooth connection or the cellular network. You can also automate several mower activities using smart home services such as IFTTT, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
Your Automower robotic mower gives you a freshly cut lawn 24/7 by clipping a little at a time. The clippings are tiny enough to be recycled into the lawn as natural fertiliser, so there is no need for you to handle them manually.
No fuel to refill or electrical cords to worry about – your robotic mower finds its way to the charging station on its own and stays there until the battery is sufficiently charged and ready for the next mowing session.
Very little maintenance is required. But now and then, depending on your lawn size, you should spend a few minutes cleaning grass from the wheels and chassis. And replacing mower blades regularly is vital to maintain an excellent cutting result.
On the contrary, if you have grass allergies or hay fever, the Husqvarna Automower can be a good solution for you. Since you don’t need to be present when the Automower is cutting your lawn, you automatically eliminate most contact with grass waste. Also, the grass is kept so short that allergens do not become airborne.
No. It is up to the owner to keep the lawn surface free from objects. Any object that is small enough for the Automower to pass over may be damaged, as well as cause damage to the machine’s blades. Make sure your lawn is clear of small objects before operating the Automower.
To maximise the life of the blades, these types of objects should be raked or collected regularly. They will not damage the mower, but the blades will wear faster. Tree branches may also damage or bend the blades resulting in a poor cutting performance.
Even though the Husqvarna Automower uses very low power, you can still cut your fingers or toes if they get in contact with the blade. A built-in safety feature means the blade will automatically stop if the mower is lifted or turned over. The distance between the outer body and the blade tip is also extra-long to avoid feet or hands from accidentally reaching the blades. Even so, we recommend turning off the Automower when small children and pets are on the lawn.
It is recommended that you clean up dog poo on your lawn for a number of reasons.
While the dog poop might not be a huge problem for your robotic lawn mower, it is not healthy for your lawn. It can discolour your grass and even leave burns.
Dog poop is considered a pollutant and a human health hazard and can carry diseases such as roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm, parvo and more. By not picking up the dog poo and mowing over it, you're effectively spreading these diseases all over your lawn, which isn't good for your lawn OR the health of you and your children.
If your robotic mower goes over a pile of poo, it helps to flatten it and, once it goes over it a few times, it should get really flat to the point where you will likely not even see it. Then the grass will grow over it and the pile of poo will be no more. But as mentioned above, the poo will be spread across your lawn during the movement of the Husqvarna Automower on your lawn.
It is important to keep your Husqvarna Automower clean for the best performance and a long service life. A mower with a lot of clippings attached also handles slopes poorly. It is recommended to clean it using a brush, spraying with water, or use a damp cloth. Never use running water, high-pressure washer, or solvent, when cleaning your Husqvarna Automower.

Laying instant lawn yourself isn’t difficult - you just need to get the preparation right and your lawn will be looking amazing in no time. To transform your space into a lush green landscape in an instant, just follow the steps below, take a look at the DIY turf guide or Lawn Solutions Australia’s guides.
For best results, lay your turf the day it is delivered. If you cannot do this, make sure your turf is in the shade and is kept moist.
Measure your area/s where you would like to lay instant lawn to calculate how much lawn you need to purchase. To do this, sketch out the area/s to be turfed. Break up the areas into basic shapes such as squares, rectangles and circles. Measure the length and width of each area then multiply them together to calculate the total m2. Lawn Solutions Australia has a nifty turf area calculator to help you with this.
Calculate the total number of square metres required by adding each area together. Always order extra; between 5-10% to allow for any slight miscalculations. It is better to have some leftover than to run out.
Good site preparation is key. Be sure to remove all existing grass and weeds with a glyphosate or similar non-selective herbicide; 2 applications may be required. This should be undertaken no less than 14 days before you want to lay your new turf. Hoe in and turn over the existing base and remove any excess vegetation, rocks or stones. Rake your area smooth and ensure your levels are correct.
It’s a good idea to conduct a pH test on your soil using a pH testing kit. If your soil has low pH levels (less than 7.0), you should add 500 grams of lime per 1m2, mixed well into the soil. If your soil is hard and compacted, or has high clay content, then add gypsum.
For best results, it is recommended that a top layer of organic matter be spread to help improve soil structure and provide essential nutrients to your lawn. If your soil is not deep enough, you will need to bring in some extra soil - use a good quality sandy loam (weed free), consisting of 60% sand and 40% soil. The soil should be added to a height of 100mm. Use a rake of straight piece of timber to level your soil for the final time. The finished level prepared area should sit 30-40mm below the height of any edging, pathways or borders to allow the turf to sit flush.
How to calculate the volume of turf underlay that you need
To do this, multiply the square metres that you worked out in Step 1, by the depth of material required (usually 100mm / 0.1 metres).
Example 1 - You have a rectangle measuring 10m x 6m and need to add 100mm of turf underlay soil. 10m x 6m x 0.1m = 6m3
Example 2 - You have a circular area with a diameter of 14 metres and a radius of 7 metres, needing 150mm of soil. The area is 7m x 7m x 3.14 = 153.86m2. The volume is 153.86m2 x 0.15 = 23.079m3, rounded down to 23m3.
It is critical that you do your research and seek professional advice, as different varieties of turf perform very differently from one another. Be sure to factor in future shade, wear and tear and access to water.
Timing your turf order is paramount, as turf is a perishable product and must be laid as soon as possible after delivery. Only order turf after you have prepared the base and are ready to lay it. Ensure your instant lawn delivery is placed in the shade before laying it, to protect the turf on the pallet from sun or heat damage.
Ensure the soil is damp, then evenly spread and lightly rake in a starter fertiliser, such as Lawn Launcher. To lay your instant lawn slabs, the soil should first have some moisture - not too wet but not too dry. It is best to start laying your turf along a straight edge, e.g. driveway, path, fence etc. The rows of turf should be staggered like a brick pattern, ensuring all edges are neatly tucked in and there is no overlapping.
If you are laying on a slope, it’s best to lay your turf across the slope rather than down; you may need to hold your turf in place with a stake until there is enough root structure to hold the turf in place.
Use a sharp knife or a shovel to shape around odd shapes, garden beds, trees etc. Don’t dispose of any excess pieces until you are satisfied you have covered all areas. After laying your turf, smooth out any air pockets by giving your turf a light roll with a water filled roller; this will ensure good contact between the roots of the turf and soil.
You have now laid your fresh new instant lawn, now it's time to look after it. It is crucial to water the lawn immediately after installing it. During hot weather, or when installing larger quantities, begin watering once you have laid a small section. Water in a methodical fashion ensuring that each slab has been watered thoroughly and evenly.
The most crucial aspect in the first month is to water your lawn well so it can establish and remain healthy. The soil under the slabs must be kept damp until the roots have established. Depending on the time of year, you should be watering deeply every day for the first 3 weeks or until your first mow. Initially, watering 2-4 times per day is recommended, but don’t flood it. Short 5 minute waters are best. If you have sub surface irrigation, you must water from above until the roots have established.
If your new lawn is producing a seed head, it means it is under stress - it could be either hungry or thirsty or both, and is a sign your lawn is due for an application of fertiliser or is crying out for more water. Don’t be alarmed if the corners and edges of the turf slabs yellow slightly - this is pretty common with new lawns.
Try to keep traffic off your new lawn as much as possible until it has rooted. After around 4 weeks (depending on the time of year) your lawn will be ready for its first mow. Before moving, ensure you cannot lift any of the slabs up to ensure they have rooted into the soil.
Do not mow your lawn too short as this can put your lawn under extreme stress and allow weeds to establish easily. When you are mowing for the first time, mow on a slightly higher setting than usual, then slowly lower the height down to your preferred height over the next 2 or 3 mows. Continue watering a couple of times per week over this period to ensure the turf doesn’t dry out.
During establishment, fertiliser should be applied at certain intervals to ensure the lawn receives the correct amount of nutrients. After about 6 weeks, your lawn will be due for a fertilise to finish off the establishment period. This is best done with an NPK Fertiliser and watered in well after application.
Ensure you follow the manufactures instructions, reading the labels and checking the specific nutrient requirements for your turf variety. Spread evenly either by hand or with a walk behind spreader, then water immediately.
We recommend the following fertiliser program:
